It was founded by former Osco Drug, Inc. President Richard E. George, Ulta Salon, Cosmetics & Fragrance was merged back in 1990.

Another Osco executive, named Terry J. Hanson, became the brand’s CEO after George’s tenure. Hanson employed Charles Weber, also previously from Osco, as CFO in September 1996.

Three years later, Lyn Kirby of Sears Circle of Beauty became the CEO and President, while Weber became Senior Executive Vice President, CFO, and COO.

Weber and Kirby ran the business together until Weber left Ulta back in 2006 when he was made Chairman and CEO of Rec Room Furniture and Games, Inc. by Staples founder Tom Stemberg.

Then in 2007, Ulta became a publicly traded business on the NASDAQ (National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotations) Stock Exchange. The following year, Ulta started its 2nd distribution center in Phoenix.

Five years ago, Carl Rubin was chosen as a Board of Directors member, COO, and President of the business.
